Apprenticeship Scholarship Fund
Building and Supporting Rochester's Construction Workforce
The Construction Industry Association of Rochester (CIAR) Scholarship Fund is designed to help individuals advance their education and training in the construction trades by completing an apprenticeship.
What We Fund
Participation in an apprenticeship program in the following trades:
- Laborers
- Carpenters
- Bricklayers
- Heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and stationary engineers
- Drywall Finishers
Funding Available
Funding period from January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026.
Scholarship Application
Eligibility
- Individuals 17+, entering union-based trades with CIAR-affiliated unions, working in the Greater Rochester Region.
- Unions CIAR represents:
- Bricklayers Local 3
- Laborers Local 435
- Northeast Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Local 276
- Operating Engineers Local 158-832 District
- Painters and Allied Trades District Council 4 Tapers Contract/Local 150
- Must be NEW to apprenticeship.
How Scholarships Are Dispersed
- Upon completion of the initial 400 hours (approximately 90 days of employment – as verified via 90-day review letter completed by the Union Supervisor): $500
- After completing the first year: $500
- After completing the second year: $1,000
- After completing the third year: $1,000
- At Graduation: $2,000
To continue receiving scholarship disbursements, the student’s supervisor must complete and submit quarterly review letters to CIAR, including an indication of the total hours completed.
Review Process
Applications will be reviewed quarterly by a panel of five reviewers consisting of select CIAR board members and industry representatives.

Please Also Include The Following
- At least one, but not more than three letters of recommendation from a union business representative, teacher, instructor, coach or school guidance counselor.
- High school and/or college transcript.
- Application must be completed and submitted before or within the first 30 days of employment with the union.
